Accredited, collaborative education,
delivered online.

kENUP edu
kENUP education promotes high-end digital programmes for educating global talent with low barriers to entry. These accredited courses of study encompass academic degree programmes, as well as much-needed vocational trainings.

Resulting from its legacy, national and regional regulatory schemes in funding, accreditation, and quality management, the educational landscape is complex and the task of building scalable and accessible operating systems for recognised digital programmes remains challenging.

In order to contribute to this global effort, kENUP Foundation has created strategic partnerships with international organizations, public institutions, non-state actors and private players in the domain:
  • Alongside the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), kENUP Foundation is offering pisa4u, an online learning community for the improvement of teaching outcomes globally. On pisa4u, OECD has published a working paper titled "Lessons Learned from the PISA4U Pilot".
  •  CARE Campus is EDU's accredited programme aiming at the development of economically sustainable formal training programmes for caregivers to older people.

  • EDU Medical College, a consumer brand of Digital Education Holdings Ltd. (DEH), is providing accredited medical degree programmes through its Bachelor of Medicine followed by a consecutive Masters of Medicine. DEH is a kENUP Limited shareholding company.
  • EDU's collaborative learning platform is used for online conferences, events and ceremonies, including for the European Investment Bank and for the G20 Health & Development Partnership.
kENUP continues to invest in some of the best proven technologies and innovative didactic formats available and, thus, orchestrating a substantive effort with the aim to meet the rapidly increasing demand for education in Europe, and beyond.

Educating physicians for
the future of Europe

edu Medical College
EDU Medical College combines hands-on practical training with digitally supported instruction formats in a student-centric approach to adaptive learning. The medical degree program consists of a three-year Bachelor of Medicine followed by a consecutive two-year Masters Degree in human medicine. Comprising a total of at least 5,500 hours of combined theoretical education and practical clinical training, its certification of at least 300 ECTS fully complies with the relevant European requirements.

The theoretical subjects are covered by high-quality digital content available to students in a virtual learning environment, where teams solve tasks of increasing complexity and receive individual feedback from dedicated tutors. These theoretical foundations are immediately linked to medical practice during the clinical training that students attend in small groups at high-quality teaching hospitals. Primary clinical partner is Helios Kliniken GmbH, one of the largest providers of inpatient and outpatient care in Europe.

EDU Medical College has accepted its initial cohort of students in December 2018. Currently, EDU's teaching hospitals are located in Germany, among others in Berlin, Erfurt, Krefeld, Oberhausen and Wiesbaden. Hospitals in other countries of the EU and in Africa will follow soon.

The launch of EDU Medical College has contributed to the public discussion on the future development of formal medical education in Europe, and beyond. A few of the title page headlines from the Republic of Malta and from Germany can be found here:  Times of Malta January 24, 2019, Times of Malta January 28, 2019, Thüringer Allgemeine March 7, 2019
During a ceremony hosted on June 27, 2018 by Mr. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Labor of the Republic of Malta, EDU has been licensed by the Maltese authorities as an 'Institution of Higher Education'. In parallel, its 'Bachelor of Medicine' has been accredited by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education within the European Qualifications Framework. The accreditation for the Masters in Medicine has been issued to EDU on April 11, 2019

EU Digital Education Action Plan
With kENUP edu, the Republic of Malta is spearheading the implementation of the European Union’s 'Digital Education Action Plan'. It also contributes to expansion and transformation of the global health workforce, as set out in the WHO Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health and the Health. Evarist Bartolo, Malta's Minister for Education and Labor, underlines: “Digital learning makes an important contribution to the broadening of medical education and training. Combining online instruction in diverse teams with the clinical training at the patient’s bedside in high-quality regional hospitals holds great promise for many regions that currently lack sufficient numbers of qualified medical personnel.”

On January 25, 2019, the World Health Organization has reported at a Policy Briefing on "Migration & Medical Education - sustainably educating a Health Work Force for Africa" held at the kENUP Building in Kalkara / Malta, in association with kENUP edu. WHO's briefing document is available for download here. The regulatory system that the Maltese Ministry of Education and Employment has conceived through the National Commission for Further and Higher Education (NCFHE) already allows for accredited education to be delivered from institutions on our island to students globally. As an example, edu Medical College - which was built in Kalkara with the support of kENUP Foundation – has shared their innovative approach to formal MD-education for Africa. DEH's briefing document can be downloaded here

While the offering of DEH, as to WHO, can already provide significant positive impact to the health systems in sub-Saharan Africa, it shows the tremendous opportunity Malta has for building additional programmes in our Universities and Institutes of Higher Education. kENUP Foundation would like to encourage the European Union and its bodies - the European Investment Bank (EIB), as well as EIT Health, were present in the briefing - to join the Republic of Malta on this important journey.
