v-debt

kENUP supports European corporations active in industries with substantive underlying market failures, for example in the development of medical interventions for the Global South. Often, ring-fenced risk-sharing facilities are being established, with the aim to de-risk private investments in the domain to a globally competitive level.

Along these lines, kENUP helps preparing corporate innovation programs for an investment by the European Investment Bank (EIB), or by other public investment banks in the EU, often in close collaboration with private or venture investors. Many of kENUP's projects make use of EIB's innovative venture debt product.

kENUP supports business plans that have a clear potential for achieving global market leadership. In doing so, kENUP works with a network of distinguished research organizations from Europe, the United States and Israel, with large players in the private investment community, with SMEs and large corporations, as well with the relevant regulators, governmental bodies, and Governments.
The public venture debt products kENUP Foundation is introducing to its clients typically fund up to 50% of the total investment needed, with the remainder being provided by the company, or from private investors.

In most circumstances, positive cash-events are being expected within 24 months after the loan has been disbursed. Venture loans with an "equity-like"-risk under the programmes we support range from € 15m to € 100m.

Once kENUP decides to support a project, the Foundation will be compensated only in case an investment has been made. Moreover, whenever appropriate, kENUP integrates venture debt structures of its public partners with the instruments it designs, for example with the kENUP Malaria facility.
kENUP is a public-benefit foundation, developing business and investment in life sciences, digital media, as well as in other data-intensive industries. We do so as long as the area holds a clear potential for global market leadership to be achieved or maintained by European corporations.

Thus, we can only support incorporated businesses with sound business plans that are about to undertake investments with significant risk, with conventional funding vehicles not being available to the extent necessary. We do not provide access to grant financing programs by the European Union, or any other donor.
